About the Curator
QuantumExecBrief is curated by Timothy Johnson, who leads Digital and Research Compute Platforms at Johnson Matthey. He works where science meets AI, high-performance computing and quantum computing—and built QuantumExecBrief to cut through vendor hype and focus on the developments that matter to business.
Background
I started my career as a research scientist, with a PhD in Materials Science and a track record of peer-reviewed publications in chemistry and materials science. Today I lead technical teams delivering AI, cloud and high-performance computing platforms for scientific R&D at Johnson Matthey.
Quantum computing is part of that work: I help shape how a materials science business explores the technology, including hybrid quantum-classical approaches, and I have hands-on experience with quantum platforms through the UK National Quantum Computing Centre's industry programmes.
I hold the Microsoft Azure AI Engineer Associate and FinOps Certified Practitioner certifications, which cover the two questions leaders ask most about any new technology: does it work, and what does it cost? I am also a Chartered Chemist with the Royal Society of Chemistry.
